For this new project in AICE Media Studies, we are to create a group of about 4 people and research multiple music groups, genres, production groups, and more.
My group was assigned a random genre, and we got alternative. We had to choose 2 production companies and two artists or groups that were signed under this company and research each one.
I researched Universal Music Group, and chose to research Pearl Jam, which is signed under this company.
We were also given a chart to separate the information by history of the artist/band, their brand identity and target audience, their digital marketing and distribution, and also their non-digital marketing and distribution.
I planned to do this within two days, one day researching the history of the band and their brand identity and target audience, and the other day researching their digital and non-digital marketing and distribution tactics.
I started with their website and researched about how the band came about, the different members of the band and which instrument they play and also found information on where each of them originated from, and how they started playing instruments/creating music. I analyzed the brand they were developing, or have developed, and also narrowed down their target audience.
The next day in class, I researched their social media presence and their presence on their website as well. I analyzed their posts on social media to determine how the band interacts with their audience and markets their music and other products. I also found information on how they make physical products in order to spread their band name, and how their products are sold worldwide to make their band more known.
